Ramadan Greetings for 2011
Ramadan Mubarak (a blessed Ramadan) to all our Muslim sisters and brothers from the staff, members and volunteers of the Christian Muslim Forum.
I have been pondering for a while what to write for this article. Fortunately, I attended Living Islam at the weekend and witnessed first hand the anticipation of the blessed month of fasting of hundreds of British Muslims. There was an atmosphere of excitement in the Lincolnshire air, not for a weekend away or the beginning of the summer holidays. Nor yet the rare opportunity of Friday prayers in the open air, which was full of Ramadan associations - an extra large gathering, women and men attending together. The preacher took the opportunity to speak on Ramadan and how we come to Ramadan rather than Ramadan coming to us, and the big mistake in the suggestion, ‘don’t bother too much about this Ramadan, there’s always another’.
So let us stand alongside each other, fast, pray, read the scriptures and share in any other way which is comfortable to us and shows the best of our different traditions, strengthens friendship and builds bridges. For those of you at work we commend this useful resource, Working Muslim which has the support of the Co-Chairs of the Christian Muslim Forum. I also take this opportunity to share a Ramadan greeting from my friend Muhammad via Facebook:
“I’m pleased to know the objective of your organization ‘Christian Muslim Forum’. I believe that you are fulfilling a noble role of building trust & understanding between Muslim & Christian faith which is ultimately contributing to establishing peace. I would like to take the opportunity to convey my greetings to all of the associates of your magnificent organization. I do believe that it’s time to build a strong relationship between Muslims & Christians worldwide to establish peace. In fact, you’ve built a beautiful platform which is certainly showing the light of hope in the darkness around the globe.”
We are also pleased to announce, at the start of Ramadan, the appointment of Zahra Imame who has worked with MINAB and the Al-Khoei Foundation, as our Near Neighbours Project Worker. We hope to have more news about Zahra and Near Neighbours soon and of a potential Eid event.
